Our History
A revival meeting being held at Lucas School House in July, 1896, resulted in the organization of the Lucas Grove Baptist Church. Sixty people came for membership at this time. Land was given by the members to build a church nearby. At this time a building committee was appointed and we also applied for membership into the Lynn Association. Sunday School was soon added to the worship service. It is interesting to note that in 1898 we collected $1.60 in Sunday School for foreign missions. Another interesting note, the two men that preached that historic revival were Southern Seminary Students.
A new brick church building was built in 1954. A parsonage was built on the property in 1968. An educational addition to the church was added in 1986. We are proud to say that we are debt free. We feel that one of our strengths as a church is getting accomplished what we set out to do.
During the summer of 1996 we did a complete renovation or our sanctuary. New carpet, pews, and choir chairs were installed. The entire church was painted and the landscaping around the church was redone.
Within the last year a playground and an open pavilion were completed behind the church. We also purchased recreational equipment to be used with the children and youth.
Our church members have expressed a desire to see our church grow both spiritually and in membership. We have good potential for growth here and feel that with the help of the Lord and a Pastor to lead us we can make things happen.
